PURSUIT INTERVENTION TECHNIQUE (PIT)​

​​TOPICS OF INSTRUCTION:

This course will provide law enforcement officers with the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully perform the Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT).

Students will receive classroom and practical hands-on training in the proper execution of the Pursuit Intervention Technique, including conducting the PIT maneuver at various speeds.​

OBJECTICES:

  • Define emergency operation techniques. Describe what factors (controllable/uncontrollable) to consider when using the Pursuit Intervention Technique.
  • Describe the legal and policy considerations surrounding law enforcement driving, including emergency response and the use of Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT).
  • Demonstrate knowledge and practical skills in using the Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT). Final practical test on a driving range.

PREREQUISITES:

  • Students must be Law Enforcement Certified.  All other equipment is provided by the Wisconsin State Patrol.
